Community Colleges educate the majority of BIPOC, women and specially-abled persons within our communities. With the continued shift in racial and ethnic demographics that is currently underway throughout the United States, our success is and will continue to be defined by how effective we are in attracting, educating, engaging and transitioning these populations.

Book 3:  The Fearless Organization
Reading Period: April 14 - May 18, 2022
Discussion: Wednesday, May 18, 2022,  3:00 -5:00 pm EST
Facilitator: Dr. Christine Mangino- President, Queensborough Community College

The book club series provides community college professionals with a unique opportunity to engage in highly interactive discussions with colleagues across the country, using as tools these carefully selected publications on DEI from varying vantage points. Participate in one or all four book club discussions designed to:

  1. Provide participants with the tools to replicate these discussions at their institutions.
  2. Increase participants’ ability to break down and build a common language and understanding of DEI.
  3. Help participants identify DEI within their institutions and among those in the communities they serve. Post identification, how do programs, policies, practices, and culture of the institution impact current and potential student and employee feelings of welcome, and opportunities for growth and success?
  4. Provide, through data, theory and best practice, a business case for prioritizing DEI
  5. Outline strategic approaches to creation of a climate which encourages and rewards critical conversations and challenging the status quo.
  6. Help participants make formal strides toward DEI maturity.

Participants are asked to order physical or electronic versions of these books in advance of the reading period and have copies handy during the discussion for reference if necessary. Online organizations such as Amazon can be used as sources for book purchase.
