Category: Events

In celebration of National Poetry Month, please join UMGC Europe’s Military Community Writers (MCW) for a no-cost virtual or face-to-face creative writing workshop led by poet Mervyn Seivwright.

Workshop Description

A Dimensional Journey: A Workshop Focusing the Sensory Layers When Writing

How do you change the reader experience? Pull the reader in with more than their eyes. This workshop examines Pablo Neruda, Mary Oliver, and Robert Hayden’s work. It analyzes the way they, as poets, use sensory imagination to add depth to their work, followed by a free writing exercise with the intended use of sensory words. This experience can be used in poetry and prose writing forms.

Mervyn Seivwright

Mervyn Seivwright writes to balance social consciousness and poetry craft for humane growth. The Spalding MFA graduate is from a Jamaican family born in London, appearing in AGNI, Salamander, and 68 other journals in 11 countries, a 2021/2023 Pushcart Nominee with a new poetry collection titled Stick, Hook, and a Pile of Yarn from Broken Sleep Books.

We look forward to your attendance virtually or at Building 2104, Ramstein Air Base
